BRAG Blast- 10/23/19

After a warm up match against Western Oregon that had 11 new players getting significant playing time the Beavers take down University of Washington 27-7 at home in first league match.

This alert contains some fun stuff to kick off the season.
1. Game summary from Coach.
2. Pic of some players going to the hospital after the game to see an injured husky player. In addition, a nice message from the Husky coach.
3. There is a link to the teams photo album that I think most of you would enjoy taking a look at. The oldest pics are at the top with the UDUB game pics last.
4. The college of Engineering had a nice write up recently on one of our stars Juwan Johnson. There is a link incase the letters are too small to read.
5. A coaches spotlight on one of our assistant coaches Trevor Da Silva. It has a pic of him with his dad and his bio.
6. We wrap up this B-Blast with some video of recent highlights and some video of Bronco's and sprints in practice.

10/19 OSU vs. University of Washington

The Beavers opened up their 2019-20 Season with an opening win vs. a determined and much improved University of Washington.

The Beavers crossed the line four times with tries to Sophomore Center Wyatt Dillman, debutant Scrumhalf Gregory Curtis, veteran standout Juwan Johnson, and Junior Fullback Cam Castle. Incoming player Reed Sandblast added a single penalty & two conversions for a final score of 27-7 (5-7 HT).

It was a very Physical Match. And unfortunately, a couple of Husky players ended up in hospital with an eye socket break, and a bad concussion. On Sunday (post-game), a bunch of the Oregon State boys visited the Husky Player in hospital, brought him some lunch, and hung out with him for a while and showed their support.  This is what rugby is about.

"I heard a number of Oregon State Players were reaching out .... I would like to express my sincere gratitude for that. We appreciate that very much and that says a lot about the quality of your team's character." UW Head Coach, Will.

Looking ahead...

After a standout 2018-19 season, the boys have been inspired and excited to get back out on the field this season. The first two weeks of the season were solely focused on recruitment, getting the new players up to speed, and having our returners lead that charge. With limited time to prepare, this is always the most challenging time because if you don't get this part right, it can be a very long season.

The good news is that the boys have come together quickly, and developed a culture of inclusivity, fun, player first, work ethic and ONE team (no one bigger than the team). This is not an easy thing to pull off, so full credit must go to the boys and all of the coaches involved. A win vs. UW was the result of plenty of hard work throughout the first few weeks.

We now turn our attention to Western Washington this Saturday. As always, this will be a challenge. The boys will be up for it, and leave everything out on the field.
