Coaches Game Summary 10/26
Western Washington
The Beavers continued their solid start to the 2019-20 Season with a BIG bonus point win over 2018-19 NCRC Champions Western Washington University. After two rounds, the Beavers are on top of the League with 10 points.
The Beavs crossed the line four times with tries to Freshman Clint Pfeifer, Scrumhalf Gregory Curtis, captain Rees Rosene, and Winger Jackson Davis. Flyhalf Clement added two conversions for a final score of 24-17.
It wasn't the ideal lead up to the match with a few injuries and mid-term exams conflicting with practices. But that wasn't going to be an excuse for not showing up on Saturday with the right attitude against a very good WWU Vikings Side.
In both halves the Beavers opened up plenty of opportunities, which was very pleasing to see. But again, like the UW match, we couldn't quite finish them off. Patience was key - and we were good enough to get over the line with 4 outstanding tries.
Defensively the Beavs were solid and matched the Vikings Physically across the park. This was a big focus leading into the match - after being dominated by them in this area for the last 3+ years.
At the end of the day, it was a BIG win for us. And knowing that we left plenty out there has the boys excited about what's coming up. We now turn our attention to our fixture this Saturday vs. the Ducks. As always, this will be a challenge, especially down inn Eugene. The boys will be up for it - and will be after a little redemption after last year's Fall loss in Eugene.
